Our Mission Statement
With the guidance of scripture, our mission is to partner with parents/ families in the Appalachian region of southeast KY to educate students to the high standards of the classical tradition while blending in Charlotte Mason’s principles so that they may grow in knowledge, wisdom, and the love of our Lord, and more ably use their gifts in the service of others and for the glory of Christ and the Church, and to rightly divide the Word of Truth. The offerings we have at this school will be to aid in this endeavor. Those offerings that help attain to that end may include: Bible, ancient language, literature, writing and speaking, history, poetry, and apologetics.
Given the limitations of meeting once a week, the offerings we have are prioritized by their value in a community setting, their affinity for dialogue, their ability to sharpen and raise accountability in a peer setting led by an authority, and the enriching potential they have to add value to the unique homeschool style of each household.
To accomplish our mission, every member’s participation and contribution is required. This may not manifest in teaching on community day, but whether at community day or at home, our community will flourish if the parents are doing their part at home to train and educate their children.
While Athanasius Academy doesn’t function strictly under the Baptist tradition, it’s held to its standards under the accountability of Harlan Baptist Church and it’s elders.
