With the guidance of scripture, our mission is to partner with parents/ families in the Appalachian region of southeast KY to educate students to the highest standards of the classical tradition, so that they may grow in knowledge, wisdom, and the love of our Lord, and more ably use their gifts in the service of others and for the glory of Christ and the Church, and to rightly divide the Word of Truth. The offerings we have at this school will be to aid in this endeavor. Those offerings that help attain to that end may include: Bible, ancient language, literature, writing and speaking, history, poetry, and apologetics.
Given the limitations of meeting once a week, the offerings we have are prioritized by their value in a community setting, their affinity for dialogue, their ability to sharpen and raise accountability in a peer setting led by an authority, and the enriching potential they have to add value to the unique homeschool style of each household.
To accomplish our mission, every member’s participation and contribution is required. This may not manifest in teaching on community day, but whether at community day or at home, our community will flourish if the parents are doing their part at home to train and educate their children.
While Athanasius Academy doesn’t function strictly under the Baptist tradition, it’s held to its standards under the accountability of Harlan Baptist Church and it’s elders.

Our offerings will be academic in nature, in order to better work towards our vision. This will aide families in the best way possible by making available offerings that are catalyzed by accountability, have an affinity for dialogue, discussion, and appreciation of beauty, and aide in an understanding of scripture. You may see a highlight of our specific offerings for this year on our website.

There is also an opportunity for some individuals who join in a teaching role to earn a portion or more of this back based on half day/ full day responsibilities and the number of students they have enrolled. Due to this service and community being in its early stages, many offerings and plannings will depend on students enrolled, and parents/ teachers available. For planning purposes, and in order to offer a more excellent service to our community, we are asking those who would like to join to enroll and confirm as soon as possible, July 17th being the latest.
