Who Is Athanasius?
Athanasius of Alexandra was one of the most important of the early church fathers. His efforts to combat false teaching were used by God to bring the church back from the edge of the brink of disaster in the late 4th century, teaching on the divinity of Christ and even being one of the first church leaders to identify the 27 books of the New Testament. He represented faithful teaching from the text of Scripture even as he engaged philosophy and theology.
In his greatest book defending the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, he reminds us that our greatest teacher is Jesus, “"He deals with them as a good teacher with his pupils, coming down to their level and using simple means... The Saviour of us all, the Word of God, in His great love took to Himself a body and moved as Man among men, meeting their senses, so to speak, halfway."
Our goal at Athanasius Academy is to embrace this truth, that Jesus is our greatest teacher, as we seek to teach our children to understand the world in light of Our Savior.
